Plymold Manufactures Steel Frame Furniture and Fixtures for Demanding Environments

Entrepreneurial Start

Emerging at the end of World War II, Foldcraft was the vision of our founder, Harold Nielsen. Harold believed in an unyielding commitment to hard work and doing the right thing. Since 1967 Foldcraft has made the southwest Minnesota community of Kenyon it's home.

In 1968 Foldcraft identified a niche for specialty furniture known as “contour mold” and with the purchase of a piece of equipment, the Plymold brand was born. Through the years the manufacturing capabilities have been expanded to include tabletops,  steel-framed furniture, upholstery, and millwork.

Over the years, Foldcraft made a number of strategic acquisitions and was the umbrella company for five brands all serving the foodservice and hospitality industries. In 2018 the company made the decision to streamline its operations through the divestiture of two brands and the closure of a third. The Foldcraft name was retired in 2021 and Plymold, the sole remaining brand, became the company’s operating name.

100 % Employee Owned

Upon deciding to retire, Harold Nielsen elected to sell the company back to the employees that helped him build it. In 1985, an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) was formed, and the company began the transfer of ownership. The company became 100% employee-owned when the transfer was completed in 1992.

At Plymold, we are certain our greatest asset is the people that work to make our clients happier and our products better. We believe through empowerment we can more effectively make decisions to positively impact our business and contribute to a more respected organization. Whether it be conducting an impromptu Kaizen event in order to improve a product or processing a "no charge" change order in the interest of doing the right thing for the client, we encourage a high-involvement culture dedicated to providing an unexpected level of service.

Community Involvement

Giving back to the community in which we live and work is an important part of how Plymold does business. Charitable involvement is an essential element in supporting the employees’ total well-being. We proudly support the local community through monetary and product donations, support of local sports teams, and annual scholarships for employee dependents and Kenyon-Wanamingo High School seniors.
